BEAVERCREEK – John Weimer feels at home in his new position at Soin Medical Center as the Director of Procedural & Obstetric Services, overseeing surgical services, universal care, and Maternity Center.

“When you walk with God and you have a passion for work – you enjoy life every day,” said Weimer.

Having faith is something he deems as essential for his work.

“I give … I get 10 fold,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who it is, when you love others, you are helping the entire community.”

John Weimer thought he would become a lawyer, but it was when he needed some volunteer work for college admission he found himself working as an EMT. This became his first job out of high school and the rest was history.

He remembers a nurse who was the first person he ever helped, “This stuck with me throughout my career. I fell in love with the idea of helping people.”

Feeling as though he was “called” to the profession, he earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Wright State University. Later he advanced his education with degrees in leadership and executive development at the University of Dayton and a master’s degree from Wright State.

When he considers his areas of responsibility, Weimer’s philosophy is to put the patient at the heart of care by surrounding them with family, and then with health care clinicians.

Weimer explained, “We have to ensure the person is at the center of their care and engulf the patient with compassion and help the family through their entire experience. It’s our job to guide and help them through that journey – whatever that may be.”

He believes staff can be taught the skills – but each one is “called” to nursing and the health care profession. “Our work is more than just answering a call light,” he said. “It’s developing relationships – finding meaning in what we do every day.”

Proud to be part of a faith-based health care organization like Kettering Health Network, Weimer feels this gives health care workers an advantage in caring for patients.

“It’s our job to hold their hand no matter what the circumstances and be there for them – offering care and support however we can.”

Weimer lives in Miami County and loves spending time with his nieces and nephews and friends when he’s not at Soin.

“At the end of the day it’s all about making memories,” he said about family and work. “It should be how we choose to live every day.”
