The Fairborn Community is also involved with the Air Force Marathon, as its Fly Zone is the only spectator area outside of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Fly Zone attendees will see full marathon participants run miles eight through 10.

Fifteen thousand five hundred runners are participating in Air Force Marathon races taking place over the weekend. It includes full, half, 10K and 5K routes, as well as other events held in conjunction with the race. The Sports and Fitness Expo was held at the Wright State University Nutter Center Thursday and Friday, as well as a Breakfast of Champions event and Gourmet Pasta Dinner.

All 50 states are represented in the Air Force Marathon, as well as 17 countries, according to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base 88th Air Base Wing Commander Col. Bradley McDonald.

Air Force Marathon making 20th run this weekend

What you should know:

– This event is expected to bring approximately 30,000 guests to the Miami Valley. Traffic near the National Museum of the United States Air Force, where the start and finish lines are located, may move in a congested fashion.

– Wheeled participants will take off 7:10 a.m. Saturday.

– Runners participating in the full marathon and 10k will take off from the starting line at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

– Buses will take off from the starting line area to transport spectators to the Fairborn Fly Zone beginning 7:35 a.m. They will return to the finish line later in the morning within 15-minute increments.

– The Fairborn Fly Zone, located in downtown Fairborn on Main Street, opens 7:30 a.m. until 11. It offers spectators the opportunity to cheer runners between miles eight and 10, as well as food, live music, fresh coffee, sign making supplies and other items. Backpacks and things of that kind are not permitted.

– Half marathon participants take off from the start line at 8:30 a.m.
