YELLOW SPRINGS — The aroma of gingerbread will fill the air in Yellow Springs as it is hosting its 2nd-Annual Gingerbread Festival to benefit Mills Lawn Elementary School PTO.

The fun takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. While the event will host opportunities for attendees to get creative with sweet treats, it is not limited to bakers. Start with a coffee from The Roastery and treats from Three Leee Cupcakery.

A whole offering of sweet family holiday activities will be served, starting with a homemade gingerbread creation competition. Design, bake and decorate your own gingerbread creation at home to compete for prizes and bragging rights. Visit millslawnpto.com for contest entry forms and more information. The Gingerbread House Contest judging and other activities start at 11 a.m.

Kids can decorate a cookie cottage kit featuring the Young’s Sweet Shoppe from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. They can share their gift list with Santa from noon-2 p.m. thanks to the support of the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce. Children are also invited to do their own holiday shopping and wrap their gifts with the help of elves at the Tyke Shop sponsored by Asanda Imports.

President and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt will tell stories and demonstrate Victorian Era Toys at 11:30 a.m. in the Mills Lawn Library. Attendees can additionally enter a drawing to win a live tree from Carl and Dorothy Young’s Christmas Trees or to be an Official Light Flipper for the Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill.

Additional village activities

The holiday activities don’t end at Mills Lawn with the Gingerbread Festival Saturday, Dec. 10. From 12-3 p.m. individuals are invited to hitch a ride on a horse drawn wagon for downtown shopping or the Little Art Theater to see Polar Express at 11 a.m. The School Forest Festival is happening at Glen Helen on Bryan Park Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with hayrides and hot cocoa.
