BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Wright State women’s tennis team competed at the UB Invitational over the weekend in Buffalo, N.Y., and had several players finish in the top four.

Linsey Verstrepen finished third in singles draw A, winning 6-0, 6-0, losing 3-6, 2-6, and winning 6-4, 6-0. Elaine Cloem finished seventh. She lost her opening match, 2-6, 1-6, and then lost her second match, 1-6, 6-4, 7-10, before winning the seventh-place match, 6-1, 6-0.

Vanessa Madrigal finished second in singles draw B, winning, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-1, before losing 6-1, 2-6, 3-6, in the final.

Tori Turner was third, winning, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 and losing, 3-6, 2-6, before winning the third-place match, 6-2, 6-4. Abby Madrigal was sixth, losing, 2-6, 3-6, winning, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 11-9, and losing, 3-6, 3-6.

In the singles draw C, Haily Morgan was fourth, winning by default, losing 6-3, 1-6, 3-6, and 6-1, 7-6 (0). Taylor Culbertson was sixth, losing, 6-7 (4), 3-6, winning, 6-3, 6-2, and losing, 2-6, 6-7 (10).

In singles D, Megan Brdicka was fourth, winning, 6-3, 6-2, losing, 3-6, 2-6, and losing, 2-6, 6-7 (1). Anna Jones was fifth, losing, 4-6, 4-6, and winning, 6-0, 6-0, and 6-4, 6-2.

The team of Morgan and Verstrepen was second in the doubles draw A, winning, 8-5, to advance to the semifinals and 8-5 to advance to the finals. The team lost, 4-8, in the championship match. Culbertson and Turner were fifth after losing, 4-8, winning, 8-4, and winning, 8-7 (6).

The team of Madrigal and Madrigal won the doubles B draw, winning, 8-7 (4) to advance to the semifinal, and 8-4 to advance to the title match. They won the championship, 8-2. The team of Cloem and Brdicka was third, receiving a bye into the semifinals before losing, 3-8. The duo won the third-place match, 8-2.

Wright State is back in action next weekend, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, as the Raiders host their invitational at Springboro High School and the South Regency Tennis Center.
