Cinibulk earns team honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Peter Cinibulk of the Rochester Institute of Technology men’s soccer team earned 2016 Liberty League Fall All-Academic Team honors.

To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. The Liberty League elevated the GPA requirement from 3.20 to 3.30 this fall to follow the established standard for eligibility for CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.

Volleyball drops four-set

FAIRBORN — The Wright State volleyball team dropped a four-set Horizon League decision to UIC on Nov. 5 at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. The game results were as follows: game 1 – 21-25, Game 2 – 25-27, Game 3 – 25-17 and game 4 – 22-25.

Swimming competes at UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Wright State men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams were in Chicago Nov. 4-5 to face UIC, Green Bay and Oakland, with the men picking up a win over Green Bay.

The men received first place finishes from Trevor Keriazes (100 breast) and Kevin McCaffrey (200 breast). The women collected a first place finish from the 200 medley relay team, setting a school record in the process.

Swimming splits at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Wright State swimming & diving teams split at Milwaukee on Nov. 6, with the men picking up a win. The men won 132-109 while the women fell to the Panthers 185-56.

The men received first place finishes from Thomas Downey (1000 free), Dominic Poletta (100 fly), PJ Musser (100 and 200 free), Trevor Keriazes (100 breast), Mitch Godar (1 and 3 meter diving) and the 200 medley relay team. Godar shattered his own school record in the 3 meter dive with a score of 370.35.

The women received two first place finishes from Kyah Fleckner (1 and 3 meter diving).

The Raiders will return to action Friday, Nov. 18, when they compete in the University of Louisville Invitational.

Women’s basketball picked fifth

FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s basketball team was picked fifth as the Horizon League preseason poll and all- league teams were announced Wednesday by the league office. Voting was conducted by the 10 head coaches in the league along with each school’s sports information contact and a media member from each institution.

The Raiders, under first-year head coach Katrina Merriweather, received 147 points overall, trailing 18-time regular-season champion Green Bay, Detroit Mercy, Milwaukee and Youngstown State. Northern Kentucky was picked sixth followed by Oakland, Cleveland State, Valparaiso and UIC.

The Raiders, who finished 24-11 last season, made their second straight appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), falling to eventual semifinalist Michigan. WSU, which defeated Urbana 110-60 in exhibition action last Sunday, opens the regular season Friday, Nov. 11, at Tennessee Tech. The home opener is on Monday, Nov. 14, against Grace (Indiana).

Meet the team night at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s basketball teams will be introduced 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the Ed Zink Fieldhouse at Beavercreek High School. The boys and girls high school and middle school teams will there along with cheerleaders, the pep band, the Beaverettes and the Beavercreek Stars.
