Carroll romps in opener

NEW CARLISLE — No. 1 seed Carroll charged out to a 29-5 lead over Dayton Meadowdale in the first quarter, then led 42-7 at the half, in a 64-14 win, Saturday Feb. 18 at Tecumseh High School.

Eleven different Carroll players scored in the contest, with Amanda Schroeder leading the way with 10 points, and Jillian Roberts finishing with nine. Carroll (19-4) advances in the D-II sectional girls tournament to play No. 14 seeded Dayton Belmont at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the sectional semifinals.

‘Creek bashes Ponitz

VANDALIA — Beavercreek, the No. 3 seed in the Division I Dayton 3 Bracket, defeated No. 18 seed Dayton Ponitz Career Technology Center 88-28, on Saturday, Feb. 18. No other results were reported. The win sets up a rematch for the Beavers (15-8) against Greater Western Ohio Conference National East foe Centerville, the tourney’s fifth seed. During the regular season, each the Beavers and the Elks each won their home contest by six points. The rematch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Vandalia’s Butler High School.

Fenwick upends Carroll

RIVERSIDE — The Patriots’ Matt Cogan scored a team-best 15 points, and Jack Seltsam scored 14, but visiting Middletown Fenwick came away with a 58-53 win Friday, Feb. 17 at Carroll High. Carroll (9-12, 3-7 in the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North) will begin Division II sectional postseason tournament play Saturday when they’ll take on Dayton Meadowdale for a 3 p.m. game at Kettering’s Trent Arena.

Beavers fall to Fairmont

BEAVERCREEK — Cedric Baldwin scored a game-high 23 points, but visiting Kettering Fairmont won Friday’s Feb. 17 contest by a 62-53 score. Beavercreek (9-13, 4-8 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s National East division) begins Division I postseason play as the No. 13 seed at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Vandalia’s Butler High School where they’ll take on Bellefontaine, the 11th seed.

Elks trample Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — Host Beavercreek was limited to 12 points in the first half of Tuesday’s Feb. 14 63-38 loss to Centerville. Peyton Young and Cedric Baldwin each scored eight points to lead the Battlin’ Beavers. Beavercreek, now 9-12 overall, 4-7 Greater Western Ohio Conference, National East, winds up the regular season Friday, Feb. 17 for a 7:30 p.m. home game against Kettering Fairmont.

Softball signups under way

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department is currently accepting registrations for Summer Adult Softball for coed and men’s teams.

For fees and times contact the parks department. The league fees include team sanctioning, softballs, umpire fees, and awards. The season runs from April 17 to July 25 with all games played at Rotary Park.
