Weather knocking out power in Greene County

XENIA — AES Ohio reports more than 12,000 Greene County customers are experiencing a loss of power, as of 5 p.m. on Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, the area is encountering weather associated with tropical depression Helene that is bringing winds nearing 30 miles per hour and gusting close to 60 with heavy rain.

A residential area north of Bellbrook and in Beavercreek near the Fairfield Mall are both estimated to have more than 2,000 reports of outages. Cedarville, Jamestown and Xenia all have multiple areas where between 501-2,000 outages are being reported.

Xenia has multiple reports on social media of fallen trees taking down power lines.

The high school football game involving Greeneview host Greenon in Jamestown has been postponed until Saturday morning. The game involving Cedarville at Madison Plains also as been postponed and will be played on Saturday.

The Xenia high school football game hosting Fairborn on Friday has been delayed an hour and will begin at 8 p.m. Gates will not open to spectators until 7 p.m.
