Base holding 24-hour vigil run

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will host its annual POW/MIA 24-Hour Vigil Run from Sept. 19-20, commemorating prisoners of war and military members who are missing in action.

The opening ceremony will begin at 7 a.m. at the AFIT Track, located in Area B. The run will start shortly thereafter, with participants running continuously for a 24-hour period.

This poignant act symbolizes the country’s enduring commitment to remember the sacrifices of those who have faced unimaginable challenges and to support the families who continue to seek closure.

Established by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed annually on the third Friday of September, with this tradition continued by subsequent presidents.
