Week 5 HS Football Recaps: Bellbrook, Greeneview extend winning streaks

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook’s defense was up to the challenge once again on Friday.

The Golden Eagles defeated Alter 17-7 to earn its fourth consecutive win. Bellbrook has only allowed 24 total points during its current-four-game win streak after its week one loss.

Alter’s only touchdown came off an interception during the first quarter as its offense was shut out for the first time this year. After that Bellbrook grinded out the game just as it did two weeks ago against Valley View.

Bellbrook grabbed a 10-7 halftime lead and scored again in the fourth quarter to make a two-score lead feel insurmountable.

SWBL play in the Southwestern Division begins next for Bellbrook. The Golden Eagles have not lost a game against a team from its own division since the 2019 season.

Greeneview 39, Triad 7

Greeneview’s defense did not allow a point until the fourth quarter as it improved to 5-0 this season.

The offense had its lowest offensive yardage output of the season, failing to reach 300 total yards for the first time this season, but dominated the second and third quarters on the scoreboard.

Triad only had seven yards rushing on 20 attempts and 101 total yards of offense in the game.

Talawanda 35, Carroll 12

Carroll was unable to stop Talawanda’s pass game and saw its undefeated run end at 4-0. The winless Brave completed 18 of 19 pass attempts for 230 yards in its win.

Both touchdowns for Carroll were scored in the second quarter after trailing 14-0 early. A scoreless third quarter kept Carroll close before Talawanda threw a 56-yard touchdown pass and later scored again to put the game away.

Northeastern 44, Cedarville 8

A scoreless first quarter quickly got away from Cedarville as Northeastern’s offense used several big plays to lead 27-0 at the break and continued to pull away in the second half.

Cedarville was held to a season-low 37 snaps, had two turnovers and went 0-for-7 on fourth down conversion attempts.

Stebbins 33, Fairborn 20

Fairborn fell behind 27-0 and didn’t score until near the end of the third quarter in the road loss. Zyaire Cavitt had two touchdown runs as the Skyhawks rushed for a season-high 54 attempts but only could muster three yards per carry.

Stebbins scored twice on plays of at least 80 yards in the second quarter and did so again from 54 yards in the fourth.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Our top performer from Greene County for Week 5 of the season is Beavercreek senior Logan Johnston. He made four tackles and had a pass deflection against Miamisburg, and returned a 33-yard interception for a touchdown which turned into the winning score for the Beavers to snap its seven-plus year losing streak in GWOC play.
